Serie A is a round-robin soccer league, meaning that every team in the league must play every other opponent in two fixtures, one at home and one away. Teams earn three points for every win, one point for a draw, and none for a loss.
At the end of the season, the team with the most points is crowned champions of Serie A, while the bottom three teams are relegated to Serie B. Teams finishing in the top six positions can qualify for European competitions next season. The top 4 will qualify for the league phase of theUEFA Champions League, while the 5th place team qualifies for theEuropa League, and the 6th place team enters theConference League play-off round.
Unlike some European soccer leagues, there's no winter break in the Italian league.
